Southampton Branch Report: The Old Contemptible – No. 409, February 1968

The Old Contemptible – No. 409, February 1968

SOUTHAMPTON             Our monthly meeting on 6th December. Chum Chairman reported on the Cenotaph parade, when fourteen Chums were on parade – a few more than last year.

The Festival of Remembrance at the Guildhall, 13th November, was well attended and very impressive.

Eight Chums and their wives were invited and attended the British Legion Supper and Social at the Chantry Hall and had a very enjoyable time.

Chum Bougourd wrote to the ‘Romsey Advertiser’ thanking the schools of Romsey who had saved silver paper and foil for Chum Weedon. He explained how it enabled Chum Weedon to make a useful contribution to Branch funds each month, also as a result we have another Chum. Chum Weedon explained that he can still take all the silver foil, bottle tops, etc.

A letter was received from our Patron, Hector Young, O.B.E., J.P., who, as many of us are aware, has been seriously ill. It was nice to know that he still remembers us.

The Branch has received a donation of £15 from the Bonhomie Club and £13 from our Chum Major Gardner. These gifts will be a great help.

A discussion arose regarding the Branch Standard, which has got too heavy for Chums to carry. It transpires that some of us are not so strong as we were and on a windy day the stoutest find it too much.

Chum Ryder reported on visits to 20 sick Chums during the past month, with an account of each. Thank you, Bob, for the pleasure and contact you provide to our sick Chums.
